“Reading is…?”
How would you finish this quote. I’d love to hear what you think.
As I travelled around England, Wales, Scotland, Ireland and France with my partner last school holidays I always made sure I had a book on hand to read when things were getting a little dull.
My partner took some sneaky shots of me reading in front of Big Ben in London, sitting on a park bench in Paris with Notre Dame in the background, and reading amongst ancient castle ruins in Ireland.
Reading is so much fun; you can do it just about anywhere.
As a child my favourite books were written and illustrated by a lady named Beatrix Potter. She is the creator of the very popular Peter rabbit book series. My love for these stories drew me to a place called Windermere in the Lake District of England. Windermere and the Lake District is where Miss Potter wrote many of her stories. Whilst here I visited Miss Potters house, and many of the locations that inspired her.
Speaking of Potter, no not Beatrix Potter a different Potter. Harry Potter! I am also a Harry Potter fan (books before movies always!) I was lucky to come across the famous Hogwarts Express Bridge in Glen Coe Scotland.
I received this message and photo for the students of Tenambit Public school from the Newcastle Knights on Friday.
“When the players at the Newcastle Knights aren’t busy on the training field, they love to relax by reading. Football players do a lot of exercise. They also do a lot of reading as they believe reading is exercise for their brain.
The players train hard and practice their football to improve their skills.
They also practice their reading because they know that practice makes perfect.”
Add your comment to that of the Knights players. Why you think reading is important?
Hi from Kali in the Meltemi camp site at beautiful Mavrovouni beach in Greece. Mavrovouni is about 3km from Gythio in Laconia and is where the caretta-caretta sea turtles choose to lay their eggs from May til August. I’m an Ozzie travelling through Europe and I’m spending four weeks volunteering with the Sea Turtle Protection Society of Greece helping to locate and protect the turtle nests until the babies hatch. After a busy morning surveying turtle nests I love to relax with a good book. I think READING IS COOL too.
These sensational, super star, students are the first at our school to successfully complete the NSW Premier’s Reading Challenge for 2015. I’m very proud of each of them. Well done! There’s still a little over 8 weeks to go. Keep reading everyone and most importantly, don’t forget to record your books on the PRC website.
